Rain gone and we hit the road early….Welcome to LaSalle, Illinois! Outside of Chicago and all things Lincoln, I am not sure what we are in store for here.
Starved Rock State Park promises many waterfalls surrounded by natural beauty and is considered one of the must see attractions in Illinois!
Ok, we’re in….
So this is the famed Starved Rock and the beginning of many staircases….
Up we go! Nice view. I have to tell you, at first, I thought we would be seeing Starved Rock not climbing it. The first picture was taken after this one and upon realizing that we were standing on the famous attraction. I nice view of the Illinois River though.
Down we go. We are glad it’s just we ladies today…Shane would not have enjoyed this unusual stairs climbing.
Another nice view….
Ok, finally we hike up and down, and up and down more stairs to head out to the canyons in search of waterfalls. Even Gracie is at a loss….where is the water??? We didn’t even bring our own drinking water thinking “14 waterfalls” would certainly yield some quality sips and swimming!
This was the big show. Now, to be fair, in the spring, when the snow is melting, the waterfalls are likely quite amazing but our timing was not the greatest, evidently.
Here at least you can see Wild Creek Canyon….not so wild but you get the idea. By now, the humidity is getter then better of us and watching these people slosh around in the mud is making us question our reasons for continuing on with our journey.
Up and Down some more and we decide to head back….another canyon and another missing waterfall.
Heading back we see this interesting rock erosion. Even without the waterfall spectacular that was promised, the park itself is really pretty great with nice trails and markers, River views and picnic areas.
Down we go….again. Not the best and not the worst day but a solid ok. We burned off our Chinese Food Over Indulgence and a day in nature is still always better than a day at the office.
Southbound tomorrow…stay tuned…
