What a wonderful surprise of a day!
We girls hit up the butterfly grove and what a treat it turned out to be. So many surprises on this trip and this one will be right toward to top. First you enter this “grove”. One of the largest monarch butterfly groves in the country. Now, unfortunately, most of them had left already due to unusually warm winter weather and even if they stayed the whole time, they usually ship out at the end of February. Better luck next time.
Our disappointment in only seeing a handful of monarchs was quickly reversed when on the far side of the grove is a magnificent coastal area!!!!!
A preserve for the Snowy Plough (again)…these birds have the best real estate in all of Southern California. This all natural, practically untouched coastal area is AMAZING! Just picture leaving this forest like grove, walking across a bright green meadow and then BAM! This coastline! We could have stayed here all day!!
Monarch!!!! Took about 30 photos to get to this one….thank god for digital cameras!
INCREDIBLE!!!! Hard to believe an area like this is so quiet and untouched!
This hawk swooped us. He was clearly hunting for his nearby family.
So Beautiful and you can see the Channel Islands in the background.
We met many local dog lovers here….friendly, respectful and one of the best kept secrets in California!
